Licensed professional trainer
the process behind great ski teaching
This page builds on the LPT detailed course overview to highlight the role of the trainer of ski instructors and the skills that you will develop by attending the LPT Training and Evaluation.

Remember this course is open to ALL Level 3 Certified Ski Instructors and above from any recognised training and certifying organisation. For more on this visit our equivalency page.

the role of the trainer
The role of the trainer – of ski instructors – is to understand, model, and label the ‘process’ behind the ‘product’ of teaching skiing.

Therefore, good teaching provides a great lesson whereas good training exposes the decision-making and teaching processes.

The overall purpose is for trainers to help instructors become accomplished at
delivering sessions that promote FUN, SAFE, LEARNING (The Adventure) for their guests.

fun
One important aspect of creating a fun climate and building the adventure is helping the ski instructors you work with understand how to effectively build connections with and between their learners.

One way of achieving this is by modelling and labelling this behaviour during lift riding time.
safe
Safety is the responsibility of the instructor and your role as their trainer is to continually model and label such behaviour throughout their training.

Modelling excellent group management on the piste is an important part of this process taking 'time-outs' to label your decision making.

learning
Understanding how to apply the 'Technical Blueprint' is crucial for instructors so that they can effectively develop their learners' performance.

Modelling the process will include multiple steps with the initial focus being on setting a clear purpose that defines how the skis interact with the snow. Objective feedback on the outcome then determines how performance is developed moving to movements and skills as required.
This process will be modelled multiple times by the trainer and then the instructors.

IN SUMMARY
The brief descriptions provided on this page are just a few examples of how we develop your role as a trainer of ski instructors. The goal is to equip you with a range of skills for training ski instructors whether that be in a ski school staff training setting or for a training and certifying organisation.
The key to successful training is being able to continually model the desired behaviour and to label this process along the way. Like everything this takes practice and a different skill set to that of teaching skiing to recreational skiers.
